Abstract
Here, LZO (La2Zr2O7) phosphor doped with europium (III) ions were synthesized by modified solid-state reaction synthesis including H3BO3 using as a flux. Structural analysis of prepared phosphor was done by X-ray diffraction analysis. The photoluminescence studies of prepared phosphor were done for various concentrations of europium (III) doping ions. It is found that PL excitation spectra cover 200–400 nm region also PL emission spectra show well-resolved peak at 595 nm range. This shows intense orange emission and allowed magnetic dipole (MD) transition (5D0 → 7F1) dominant over electric dipole (ED) transition (5D0 → 7F2). Judd–Ofelt (J–O) theory significantly explains the spectral characteristics of RE ions in solids. The J–O intensity parameters ΩJ (J = 2, 4, and 6) enable us to understand the chemical bonding and structural environment between RE ions and ligand field. Herein, J–O theory is explained for europium doped LZO phosphor in detail. CIE coordinate lies in near orange–red region and compared with commercially available phosphors.
