Abstract

We describe a procedure that could become an important tool in the utilization of the recently established global digital seismograph network towards routine estimation of the principal seismic source parameters (hypocentral coordinates, seismic moment tensor) for earthquakes of moderate size. Considering the usual level of global seismic activity, the analysis could eventually be applied to as many as several hundred events per year, rapidly transforming our level of understanding of the process of stress accumulation and release.
