Abstract

Abstract 1. A method has been presented for the determination of serum butanol-extractable iodine. As in other methods, the serum is acidified and extracted with n-butanol, and the butanol extract is treated with Blau reagent to remove interfering compounds. 2. Total iodine in the butanol is determined by a modified alkaline incineration procedure. After removal of the butanol, crystalline bovine albumin is added, and a total iodine determination is carried out. 3. Careful consideration is given to the details of the procedure, including those for the construction of the standard iodide curve.
