Abstract

A simple method for determining selenium in human urine by neutron activation analysis was developed. A 10 ml urine sample is irradiated for 1 h at a thermal neutron flux of 5 × 10 13 cm −2 sec −1. A chemical procedure followed, after a cooling time of five days, allows the detection of as little as 0.6 ng Se/ml. The recovery is 81 ± 8%.
