Abstract
Abstract A high performance liquid chromatography method is described for the determination of scytophycin macrolides in algal extracts and culture filtrates. Samples of lyophilized algae were disrupted by ultrasonication in methanol. Algal extracts and culture filtrates were concentrated by adsorption onto C-18 solid-phase extraction columns and elution with methanol. Scytophycins were analyzed on a C-18 column with UV detection at 261 nm. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile (33%), methanol (33%), and water (33%). Overall recovery exceeded 93%.
