Abstract
AbstractThe rotenone content of Lonchocarpus root and of the oleo‐resin have been determined by a standard method of direct crystallisation of the carbon tetrachloride solvate and also by the crystallisation of the solvate after the partial removal of other components by alkali extraction or column chromatography. The highest results were given by the chromatographic method and the lowest by the direct crystallisation procedure. Evidence is presented that direct crystallisation gives results that may be 20% lower than the true values, and revision of the standard method is desirable.
