Abstract

Tracer techniques, based on neutron activation analysis and ashing procedures, are discussed with reference to measurement of material residence time distribution (RTD) through polymer processing apparatus. Particular emphasis is given to details of experimental techniques employed, their reproducibility, and ultimately to their application for characterisation of polymer RTD in twin-screw extrusion and injection moulding machinery.
