Abstract

An integrated alpha count method for the determination of the concentration of 222Rn is described which does not require equilibrium between radon and its short-lived daughters. The initial radon activity R0 is shown to be proportional to the total alpha disintegrations It in a time interval from t1 to t2 through a proportionality factor F(t1, t2). It is also shown that the accuracy of the method depends on the length of the counting period rather than on the time elapsed since sampling as long as this is short compared to the half life of 222Rn.
