Abstract

AbstractWhen the field radiated by an antenna is measured in the near‐field region, this must be transformed into far‐field. If a spherical wave expansion is used for this transformation, the transmission formula must be solved, and hence the probe receiving coefficients must be known. Normally, the electric Hertzian dipole coefficients can be applied; however, sometimes this approximation is not possible, and even though the antenna under test and probe are far away, the correct probe receiving coefficients are necessary. In this letter, an algorithm for determining these coefficients using the gain parameter of the probe is proposed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
