Abstract

In order to be able to determine 100–500 ppb levels of formaldehyde in workroom air and 10–50 ppb levels in homes, methods for sampling and determination of formaldehyde in air have been investigated. With active samplers based on reaction with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine on C18 cartridges, 8 h sampling time resulted in a detection limit of 1 ppb. With a passive sampling method and equal sampling time, the detection limit was determined to 22 ppb.
