Abstract

The porosity and the formation factor of water‐saturated porous glass specimens made from sintered spherical grains are determined from the dielectric dispersion measurements of the specimens. This is done by fitting the Mendelson et al. theory for a water‐saturated porous glass specimen to the experimental data using a bimodal grain shape distribution (spherical and plate‐like) for the glass. The porosity, pore‐water conductivity, concentration of plate‐shaped grains, and their aspect ratio are used as fitting parameters, which are varied to obtain the best fit. The porosity and formation factor obtained by this fitting procedure are very close to the values obtained by separate measurements.
