Abstract

1. The potentiometric titration method can be used for assessing the percentage content of phosphorus in thiophosphoric acids and of phosphorus and zinc in zinc dithiophosphates. 2. The potentiometric method can be used for assessing the reaction, alkalinity, and phosphorus and barium content in DF-1 dithiophosphates. The barium contents of Ba(OH)2 and Ba dithiophosphate are determined separately. 3. In contrast to zinc dithiophosphates, EFO (a phosphosulfuretted extract) must be titrated with alkali to pH 13 to effect complete decomposition and allow quantitative determination of its phosphorus and zinc contents. 4. Potentiometric analysis of additives is recommended for monitoring the quality of phosphorus-containing additives both in the laboratory and industrial plants.
