Abstract

A few years ago, Subramaniam and Cangelosi published a group contribution method for calculating the limiting oxygen concentration (LOC) of combustible gases. In the present article, these LOC values are compared with recommended values from the database CHEMSAFE, measured experimentally according to German standard DIN 51649. Evaluation of the results shows that the calculated LOCs differ widely from those taken from CHEMSAFE, so that the group contribution values of some substances have to be redetermined on the basis of the more recent data material.
