Abstract

Since 1967, 27Mg has received a relatively high amount of attention both theoretically and experimentally. Most of the main results on branching ratios, multipole mixing parameters of the gamma — ray transitions and spins of levels in 27Mg have been obtained by using method II of Litherland and Ferguson, through the 26Mg (d, p) reaction1,2,3,4) but the mixing ratio parameter for the 984 keV γ-ray from the first excited state could not be deduced. Its determination should provide a fairly sensitive test of the collective model5). Lacambra et al.5) by a P.W.B.A. analysis and Wagner4) by a D.W.B.A. analysis, found two different values for this mixing — ratio parameter. Anyway these kind of calculations are poor approximations. Therefore, it was our purpose to obtain the value of this mixing — ratio by measuring γ-γ angular correlations with a multi — counter goniometer and γ angular distributions with a Ge(Li) detector.
