Abstract

The method for determining the mechanical and adhesion characteristics of the particle-surface system based on a comparison of the results of particle size measurements by two independent methods – by the electric mobility of particles and by the diffusion method - was proposed and experimentally tested. In the first case, the particle size was established by an Electrostatic classifier of particle (model TSI EC 3071A), and in the second case, it was measured by a screen type diffusion battery (DB) (model TSI 3041). Iodobenzene, molybdenum oxide, and tungsten oxide aerosols with particle sizes ranging from 3.05 nm to 15.4 nm in diameter were used in the experiments. Experimental data on aerosol penetration through DB were used to calculate the average value of adhesion efficiency and thermal rebound parameters of particles. The adhesion characteristics of the particle-surface system: the Gamaker constant А and specific adhesion energy sP,S were determined by using the models of particle adhesion to a flat surface.
