Abstract

Determination of in vitro hepatotoxicity of two plants of the Apocynaceae family Although toxicity has been ascribed to Acokanthera oppositifolia and Tabernaemontana elegans, no data exists concerning its potential hepatotoxic effects. Using a multi-parametric assay it was observed that hot water and methanol extracts of A. oppositifolia and T. elegans decreased cell viability, destabilized the mitochondrial membrane and induced strong apoptotic signals.
