Abstract

The reaction of ferrie iron with dimethyl-β-phenylenediamine, which allows a very sensitive determination of iron, has been applied to biological materials. The high pH sensitivity of the reaction has been overcome by buffering with sodium acetate. To obtain constant and reproducible results the material must be completely converted to white ashes.
