Abstract

Abstract Alkali-free lead phosphate glasses containing silver oxide show a linear relationship with the Nernstian slope for iodide concentration. By using these glass membranes as potentiometric detector sensors for ion chromatography, the limit of detection for iodide ion was extended down to 0.05 μg cm−3. The high sensitivity can be interpreted in terms of the strong interaction between iodide ion and the silver ion incorporated in the membrane material.
