Abstract

For one even- A rotational nucleus ( 152Sm) the influence of the hexadecapole interaction on multiple Coulomb excitation has been calculated for a variety of bombarding conditions and different assumptions with regard to E4 transition moments. An experimental method is outlined by which the determination of E4 transition strengths is feasible. Extensive numerical results are presented which may be helpful in planning Coulomb excitation experiments.
