Abstract

Summary - The 2 restriction enzymes Xbal and Sspl were found to produce DNA fragment distributions convenient for genome analysis of dairy propionibacteria species (P acidipropionici, P freudenreichii, P jensenii and P thoenil) by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. These restriction enzymes produced 10-19 fragments with sizes ranging from 5-1 000 kilobases (kb) depending on the strains. The entire genome size was estimated to be approximately 2 30Q-3 200 kb depending on the speeies.
