Abstract

The response time of high voltage impulse dividers is very important parameter which determine their maximal frequency. This parameter has to be tested by measurement in high voltage laboratories. Usually, the step voltage method is used to determine normalized step response and the experimental response time is calculated. Another method is the direct measurement of voltage divider frequency characteristics in frequency domain. The proposed measurement circuit and method allow to determine amplitude and phase characteristics of high voltage dividers in the frequency range up to several tens of megahertz. Direct measurement in frequency domain was experimentally compared with the measurement which use the step response method. This verification was performed on two standard high voltage dividers, first the resistive divider for impulse voltages up to 1 MV, and second resistive-capacitive divider for impulse voltages up to 200 kV.
