Abstract

Objectives: Cryopreservation of human ovarian cortex as a strategy for preserving fertility has recently been object to numerous investigations. However there is only few data on the number of follicles necessary for effective therapy, as well as data concerning the number of follicles available in ovarian cortex biopsies mostly bases on estimations. The objectives of this study were: (1) to determine follicular density in ovarian cortex samples using a calculation basing on follicular counts from serial sections, (2) to assess if the distribution pattern of follicles over the ovarian cortex allowed prediction of follicular density from the determination of follicular contents in neighbouring samples.
