Abstract

The determination of Floquet modes for asymmetric periodic structures is presented. Starting with open-or short-circuit parameter descriptions of the periods a difference equation system is developed that allows the computation of the Floquet modes. The algorithm is derived for the method of lines but can be used in other eigenmode algorithms as well. Numerical results for a Bragg-grating show that the expressions are stable also for a big period length where the application of transfer matrix expressions leads to numerical problems.
