Abstract

Flood frequency analysis has been typically undertaken based on systematic records alone. However, in the past two decades, the value of using historical data and paleoflood data in flood frequency analysis has been recognized. In this chapter, the basis and applications of historical and paleoflood data to increase the flood data base are reviewed along with a description of the methods of flood frequency analysis where systematic, historical, and paleoflood data are available.
