Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to determine the level of awareness, consciousness and sensitivity of Suleyman Demirel University students about the subjects concerning environmental issues. The study is carried out with the students of Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and Health Sciences programs. In this study it is examined whether some of the students’ personal characteristics make a difference in their approach about the environmental sensitivity or not. Further their opinion about the adequateness of the environmental education they receive in formal education is investigated. Based on the findings obtained from the survey study, it was determined that the level of awareness and sensitivity is independent from the grades of students; and even if they have knowledge about environmental problems and conservation of natural resources conceptually, their attitudes and behaviors are not at the same level in their daily lives. As a result, the need to question the effectiveness of environmental courses given within the mentioned license programs regarding their guidance towards attitude and behaviors; and the requirement of national strategies and policies about environmental education in higher education institutions were emphasized.
