Abstract

AbstractRate constants of the propagation and transfer processes for the cationic polymerization of styrene catalyzed by rhenium pentachloride were obtained by kinetic analysis. Also, dependence of the propagation constant on the dielectric constant of the system was examined. Comparison of these data with those of the other systems with different catalysts suggests that the present catalyst is a strong Lewis acid and the size of the counterion is very large.
