Abstract

On some materials an inspection in their welding or heat affected zones is required in order to detect flaws or discontinuities that could make materials to fail in their final applications. One of the available inspection methods is the eddy currents test. In this paper we propose a mathematical framework targeted at the determination of two parameters commonly found in automatic inspection by eddy currents test: [cutting_tolerance] and [cutting_position] (or equivalents). These are critical parameters that control acceptance or rejection criteria in the inspected materials. When there is no way communicate the process machinery and the eddy currents test equipment to calculate these parameters at real time, this framework could help to calculate them offline. This scheme could mainly apply to continuous process setups, like manufacturing of pipes, bars, or other longitudinal objects.
