Abstract

Replication of primitive Gaussian basis functions is used to minimize energy losses in contracted Gaussian basis set. A method for obtaining near optimum contrction coefficients for the replicated functions and requiring least squares solutions of a set of linear equations is described. Repeated self-consistent field calculations are thereby avoided. An application of the method to production of a contracted basis set for phosphorus is outlined.
