Abstract

Abstract An acid hydrolysis procedure is described to liberate chlorohydrins from the starch matrix in the determination of chlorohydrins in hydroxypropyl starch. An ether extraction method is then used to isolate the chlorohydrins which are separated and determined by gas chromatography. The sensitivity level was 1 ppm and recovery was 90% at 5 ppm.
