Abstract

A new Redox titrimetric procedure was developed for determination of cerium concentration after quantitative conversion of Ce(NO3)3 into Ce(SO4)2 using a mixture of concentrated perchloric and sulphuric acid. The precision and accuracy was estimated to be ± 2.0% for determination of Ce concentration in the range of 2–10 mg. The selectivity of the method was assessed by evaluating the effects of envisaged foreign compounds present in the samples obtained in dissolution of mixed oxide pellet consisting (Ce, U)O2 upon determination of cerium concentration. This proposed procedure has been employed for determination of cerium concentration in samples obtained in dissolution of CeO2 and mixed oxide pellet of (Ce, U)O2.
