Abstract

The determination of CO 2 by non-aqueous titration against sodium methoxide, using thymolphthalein indicator, has been applied to rock analysis. Replicate determinations are reported for CO 2 in the international standards SY-2 and BCR-1, and in an “in house” standard, NS. Comparative data are also presented for the conventional volumetric and gravimetric methods. When the procedure is combined with the titrimetric method of chemical-water determination, using a split-flow technique, simultaneous determination of H 2 O and CO 2 may be effected.
