Abstract

Absorption bands of calcite and dolomite in the 14 micron region are resolved by an infrared spectrophotometer. Sample preparation to the fine grain size required is simplified by pipetting a sample with grain size of less than 10 microns from a sedimentation column and allowing material to dry on a sample mount. Excellent agreement with X-ray procedures is obtained and the infrared equipment can be set up in temporary field laboratories.
