Abstract

Cadmium is determined in silicate materials by flameless A. A. spectroscopy combined with a liquid-liquid extraction procedure using secondary high-molecular-weight amines. 10% Amberlite LA-2-xylene and 8% (vol.) ethylenediamine were used as extractive solvent and strippant respectively. The extraction conditions employed ensure quantitative extraction of cadmium also in presence of foreign elements. The sensitivity of the method is limited above all by the purity of the reagent. For this reason Cd determination limit in samples is about 40 ppb. Instrumental precision (about 10%) and bulk analysis reproducibility (20–30%) were evaluated.
