Abstract

The main role of every public transportation is to serve the public interests in carrying out transportation activities. To streamline its services, public transportation needs to reach out to activity centers in urban areas. Currently, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) transportation operated in Makassar City is still limited in terms of capacity and has not been able to serve all existing activity centers. On the other hand, most people are not yet interested in using BRT services. Hence, it is necessary to concern about travel efficiency to attract people using BRT. Although there are various ways to measure network efficiency, the efficiency performance rates in this study narrow down on how easily the users of public transportation can move from one transit point to another. In Makassar, the level of BRT connectivity is crucial to improve adequate services for its users. The objectives of this study are to determine the distribution of activity centers in Makassar and to determine the connectivity index of the BRT system based on the activity centers of the city. In this study, the data used came from observations and previous studies. The data were then analyzed through spatial analysis and connectivity index analysis. The research finding is the BRT system connectivity index that serves activity centers in Makassar tends to be higher in the mixed-use area and at the transportation nodes.
