Abstract

Trace metals can be successfully determined in a silver nitrate matrix with a shortened temperature programme that includes an accelerated drying step and excludes a pyrolysis step. Analyte concentrations determined by this technique overlapped with the 95% confidence intervals for an in-house reference standard. Sensitivities for most elements are comparable to literature values. The matrix acts as a physical modifier for volatile elements by delaying atomization so that it occurs when more nearly isothermal conditions prevail. No matrix interferences are observed and the addition of other modifiers do not appear to be necessary. Determination of zinc require gas flow conditions that reduce the effects of high blank absorbances.
