Abstract
Values of B(E3; ot --+31) for the stable isotopes of Cd have been determined from particle spectra obtained using Coulomb excitation by 160 projectiles. The results are: 016 O 04 e2 b3 (106Cd), 0.1500.01O e2 b3 (108Cd), 0.1l50.013 e2 b3 (llOCd), 0.1l40.009 e2 b3 e12 Cd), 0.131 0015 'e2 b3 (114Cd) and 0-l000.01l e2b3 (1l6Cd). The corresponding E3 strengths are 34, 31,23,22,24 and 18 single particle units (s.p.u.) respectively. Examination of these and other data reveals no evidence for shell effects in B(E3; ot --+31) values near the Z = 50 proton shell, in contrast to the situation for B(E2; ot --+2 t) values.
