Abstract
A reliable and efficient procedure for measuring ammonia in natural waters using a Cobas-Fara centrifugal analyzer is described. The procedure, as optimized, has a detection limit of 0.01 mg I -. It is both accurate and precise; within-run precision varied from 0.69 to 0.74% and between-run precision varied from 0.74 to 2.13%. Analytical recovery ranged from 97.5 to 99.1%, and the results correlated well with those obtained by the standard phenate method. This procedure has several practical advantages including increased throughput (112 samples per h), decreased sample-size requirement (85 μl) and technical ease of operation.
