Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to find a simple way which can be used to determine the critical damage factor for perfect brittle rock. Phenomenological method is employed to introduce a new characteristic variable—continuous degree, which represents the distance between two contiguous micro-flaws in rock. The mapping relationship between damage factor and continuous degree is deduced. According to the size distribution function of fragments, the theoretically critical value of damage factor is obtained.
