Abstract

A novel, simple and accurate proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR) method was proposed and validated for piracetam determination. Maleic acid was used as the internal standard and deuterium oxide (D2O) as the diluent. NMR signals at 3.94 ppm and 6.25 ppm for the proton of piracetam and maleic acid respectively were used for the quantification of piracetam. The different validation parameters of performance of the method, such as linearity, precision and accuracy, satisfied our requirements well. The linearity range was (10–50 mg/o.6 ml of (D2O) with correlation coefficient (r=0.999). The method was the first method that determine piracetam in bulk and in pharmaceutical dosage form using quantitative NMR spectroscopy.
