Abstract

In this study we compare two methods to determine the forming limit stress diagrams of orthotropic sheets for off axes solicitations. The first one is carried out by means of a plastic calculation along the experimental strain paths of the forming limit diagrams. The second one uses the theoretical model initially proposed by Marciniak and Kuczinsky. This model considers a material with a linear heterogeneousness of lower thickness; the comparison of the results given by the two methods shows a very good agreement between the two kinds of curves. Then, we propose to build a surface between the various curves of the sheet surface. This surface allows the necking detection at the time of the numerical simulation of deep drawing operations by means of the finite element method. Examples allow to illustrate the accuracy of this method of necking prediction.
