Abstract

The primary aim of this work was to investigate the effects of HS contents on the mechanical properties, shielding performance, and impact properties of UHPC. The shielding performance against gamma rays was calculated and measured using the XCom program and radiation equipment with a 60Co source. Furthermore, other shielding parameters such as buildup factors and the effective fast neutron removal cross-sections were also calculated. The results displayed that the shielding performance against gamma rays of UHPC increased with increasing HS proportions, while the fast neutron removal cross-section reached the maximum value at 50 % HS content. Specifically, compared with S0, μ increased by about 10.81 % and 10.56 % at the energy of 0.662 MeV and 1.25 MeV, respectively, whereas the values of HVL and TVL all decreased by 10.66 % in the selected energies. Additionally, the results demonstrated that the mechanical property and impact properties increased with the increase of HS content.
