Abstract
• A decomposition method incorporating carbon sources and carbon sinks is proposed. • Drivers of net energy-related CO 2 emissions during 2010–2018 in China are identified. • Economic growth, energy intensity, and vegetation productivity are dominant factors. • For increasing carbon sinks, improving climate adaptability may be more important than adjusting land structure.
