Abstract

We previously reported the detection by electron microscopy of many C-type murine leukemia virus particles in lymphatic tissue (spleen, mesenteric lymph node) germinal -centers of C58 mice [1]. Virus particles were observed in germinal centers of this high leukemic mouse strain (>90% by 14 months old) between 3 and 9 months, or throughout the relatively long period of leukemia development, C-type virus particles were not restricted to germinal centers of the spleen and lymph nodes; however, their abundance in these sites was pronounced. Subsequently, the detection of viruslike particles in germinal centers of another species, nonleukemic Hartley strain guinea pigs, has been reported [2].
