Abstract

Summary Objective The main purpose of this study was to extract Alternaria alternata antigens for evaluating the skin allergic reactions and specific anti- A. alternata IgE in asthmatic patients. Materials and methods Eighty-eight patients with asthma (46 male, 42 female) and 40 non-atopic individuals were enrolled with sequential trials. Sensitization to A. alternata antigens has been evaluated in asthmatic patients by skin prick test (SPT) and dot-blotting assay. Results Positive SPT reactions were obtained on 70.5% of patients ( P P A. alternata IgE antibody was detected in 46 (52.3%) of patients (strong positive responses) by dot-blotting test, but no specific IgE antibody was detected in control group ( P Conclusion We confirmed that different allergenic components of A. alternata may play an important role in producing signs of asthma in the sensitive patients.
