Abstract

Polyadenylic acid sequences were detected in bean pod mottle (BPMV) and cowpea mosaic virus (CPMV) RNAs but not in tobacco rattle (TRV) and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) RNAs or the low molecular weight pathogenic RNA (viroid) from citrus exocortis disease (CEV). A resistant RNA fragment from BPMV-RNA-treated with T 1 and pancreatic ribonuclease migrated as 4–5 S RNA in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The polyadenylic acid sequence appears to be associated with both components of the BPMV genome.
