Abstract
Nowadays many investigators are attempting to clarify the functions of carbon compounds in the N2 fixation activity of nodules in legumes. RAUTHORNE et al. reviewed the carbon and nitrogen metabolism in nodules (1). Some specific carbon compounds found in nodules of leguminous plants were reported such as poly-β-hydroxy-butyrate (2), malonate (5), and D-pinitol (4, 5). However there are still some aspects of the carbon metabolism in nodules which remain unclear.
