Abstract
The paper considers the detection problem of methane leaks from main gas pipelines (MG). The analysis of MG features as a diagnostic object was carried out. An overview of the most common methods and tools for diagnosing gas communications is given. The methods of remote sensing of the Earth underlying surface by a laser location method are singled out. The advantages and disadvantages of the vertical laser location from the aircraft side in the window of atmospheric transparency are discussed in detail. A new approach is proposed for monitoring the technical state of the gas pipeline based on a survey of a potential cloud of methane leaks from defective areas with an inclined laser beam. Mathematical software for numerical studies of the proposed approach are developed. The efficiency of a new method detecting MG methane leaks in comparison with the method used today in the industry has been proved by calculation.
