Abstract

The present article proposes a method based on autoregression technique for detection of a fault and faulty phase on a transmission line during power swing. The autoregression technique is used to predict the future samples of the fault current signal recorded at one end of the line. The half-cycle sum of magnitude difference (SMD) between the original signal and its predicted signal is calculated in a moving window to detect faults at swing condition. After fault detection, SMD is calculated over the next half cycle for each phase current to identify the faulty phases. The proposed method is verified for different fault conditions and fault parameters and it detects the fault within half cycle and identifies the faulty phase correctly.
