Abstract

Objective To study the pathogenic spectrum of enteroviruse (EV) in the samples of child influenza-like illness (ILI) cases in Xuzhou city. Methods In 2018, 1 282 throat swab specimens of ILI cases in Xuzhou Children’s Hospital were collected for genotyping of influenza virus and EV. Nested PCR with specific EV primers was used. The amplicons were sequenced and were analyzed by certain bioinformatic softwares. Results Of the 1 282 ILI cases, 161 cases were influenza virus positive and the positive rate was 12.56% (161/1 282). Thirty cases were EV positive and the positive rate was 2.34% (30/1 282). Six genotypes of EV, including coxsackievirus (CV) A5, CVA6, CVA10, CVB3, CVB5 and EV-D68 were obtained and the percentages of positive were 10.00% (3/30), 3.33% (1/30), 10.00% (3/30), 6.67% (2/30), 20.00% (6/30) and 50.00% (15/30), respectively. Conclusions EV-D68 and other types of EV were detected from child ILI cases in Xuzhou city. The detection rate were higher in summer and autumn when influenza virus were usually negative. Surveillance scale and time should be extended for further understanding of the epidemiological patterns, so as to provide data support for early warning as well as prevention and control of relevant epidemics. Key words: Child case of influenza-like illness; Enterovirus; EV-D68
