Abstract

Purpose: To report the detection of virus DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the aqueous humor of a patient with Posner-Schlossman syndrome (PSS). Method: Interventional case report. Results: A 41-year-old immunocompetent male presented with typical Posner-Schlossman syndrome and elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) refractory to anti-glaucoma medications. The aqueous humor sample was obtained when the patient underwent trabeculectomy. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA was detected in the aqueous humor sample by PCR. The patient's IOP was well controlled after surgical intervention. Conclusion: We report the detection of CMV by PCR in the aqueous humor of a patient with Posner-Schlossman syndrome. CMV virus infection might be one possible cause of Posner-Schlossman syndrome.
